FYI:

> Dear colleagues,
>
> We invite applications to attend an upcoming CIG workshop on “Software Citation: Beyond the Research Paper”, October 29-30, 2015 in Davis, CA. This is a workshop of the Software Attribution for Geoscience Applications (SAGA <https://geodynamics.org/cig/projects/saga/>) project.
>
> Information about the workshop and links to apply are available here <https://geodynamics.org/cig/events/calendar/2015-saga-workshop/?eID=1196>:
>
> Background: A topic that emerges regularly in formal and informal conversations among CIG scientists is how to best attribute credit for the effort involved in code development. Traditionally, scientists publish a paper that includes a description of a numerical method and the code implementation, and users of the code cite that paper. The limitations of this approach have been recognized by publishers, librarians, scholars of scientific publishing, and funding agencies, as well as other scientific disciplines. In response, CIG started the SAGA project with an NSF EAGER award from the SBE Office of Multidisciplinary Activities for “Development of Software Citation Methodology for Open Source Computational Science”.
>
> The upcoming workshop invites participants from across disciplines to convene to specify desirable metadata and workflows to enable software citation in the geosciences.
>
> Space is limited. You must apply <https://geodynamics.org/cig/events/calendar/2015-saga-workshop/registration/> to attend. Virtual attendance is available.
>
> Travel support is available through CIG and the UC Davis Innovating Communication in Scholarship (ICIS) Project.
>
> We look forward to your attendance at this dynamic workshop.
>
> Best wishes,
>
> Louise Kellogg
> Professor, UC Davis
> Director, Computational Infrastructure for Geodynamics
